Estêvão
London, United Kingdom – 09 30 2025: Estevao seen during Champions League league phase game between Chelsea FC and SL Benfica
Estêvão’s injury is not as bad as has been claimed, with the Chelsea youngster still expected to be fit for the World Cup this summer.
Journalist Eduardo Burgos urges everyone to “take it easy” over the 18-year-old after reports today stated he could be set for an extended spell on the sidelines.
World Cup worries
Estêvão suffered a hamstring injury during the defeat to Manchester United in the Premier League last weekend.
Reports in England then stated that this was a grade four injury, ruling the Brazilian out for Chelsea for the rest of the season. They also claimed that he was also unlikely to feature for Brazil at the World Cup this summer.
But Burgos wants to pour cold water on the situation. He insists that everyone “take it easy” about the forward.
According to his information, Estêvão will miss Chelsea’s remaining fixtures. But he still has a good chance of making the World Cup. His recovery before the tournament is now the ‘absolute priority’.
He adds in a second tweet that the hamstring injury will keep Estêvão for ’20-30 days’. The forward, at this point, is avoiding surgery.
Brazil are now on tenterhooks waiting to see what happens. Their hope is that he misses the group stages at most. GE Globo report that Estêvão is negotiating with Chelsea to return to Brazil for treatment. That would see Brazil in constant contact with the Blues about his situation.
Chelsea in control
Chelsea, though, will want to ensure that Estêvão is not rushed back from such an injury just to be Brazil’s poster boy this summer.
This is already the fifth injury absence for the youngster this season. While two of those have been short because of illness, this is his second hamstring injury, and he suffered a muscle injury in December as well.
He also had a hamstring injury that kept him out for 19 days while he was at Palmeiras. That should raise alarm bells given he only returned from a 25-day absence last month. That was also his hamstring.
Rushing him back prematurely just for the World Cup would be foolhardy to say the least. Especially when, at 18-years-old, he will have plenty of tournaments ahead of him as well.
