'Expected soon': Former West Ham coach could replace Liam Rosenior at Chelsea - report

Former West Ham United assistant Edin Terzic has reportedly emerged as a potential replacement for Liam Rosenior at Chelsea, only weeks after holding talks with Tottenham Hotspur.

Two years on from guiding Borussia Dortmund to the brink of Champions League glory – Dani Carvajal and Vinicius Jr would fire Real Madrid to a Wembley win in June 2024 – Terzic is ready to secure a return to management.

Terzic turned his nose up at Tottenham Hotspur, per The Athletic, before the ill-fated appointment of Igor Tudor.

Tudor only lasted a month-and-a-half, winning one of his seven matches. In contrast, Liam Rosenior’s three-and-a-half month, 23-game reign makes him look like Chelsea’s answer to Sir Alex Ferguson.

According to RMC Sport, with Rosenior now officially gone, Chelsea are the latest struggling London-based giant to consider the one-time West Ham United assistant for a return to the Premier League.

Edin Terzic reportedly a candidate to join West Ham United’s rivals Chelsea

Rosenior’s position became untenable after Chelsea were dismantled 3-0 by Brighton and Hove Albion on Tuesday. The only thing more humiliating than the scoreline was the chants aimed towards Rosenior by a jubilant home support; ‘one of our own’, they warbled ironically in the direction of a man who ended his playing career with the Seagulls in 2018.

RMC claim that Terzic is one of the candidates to take his place. The 43-year-old German is ‘expected to join a [new] club soon’, though Chelsea are not the only interested party.

Terzic is reportedly the preferred appointment of Athletic Bilbao; the historic La Liga outfit who will say goodbye to the long-serving Ernesto Valverde at the end of the current campaign.

Terzic’s West Ham past is unlikely to stand in his way of a move to Stamford Bridge – he worked alongside Slaven Bilic from 2015 to 2017 – but after two years out of the game, one suspects Terzic will put extra emphasis on finding the right job rather than merely the biggest one available.

The Champions League and Bundesliga runner-up was not keen on the Tottenham job, albeit mainly because he had reservations of taking over a team in the midst of a relegation battle.

While West Ham host David Moyes’ Everton on Saturday, Tottenham travel to already-relegated Wolves.

Chelsea are on their worst league run since the Titanic set sail in 1912. After five successive league wins without even a single goal, there is a serious argument that Leeds are the favourites to progress in Sunday’s FA Cup semi-final.
