Report: Chelsea get last laugh over Liam Rosenior as clause revealed after sacking

Despite criticism over the way the Chelsea owners have handled the Liam Rosenior situation, they did manage to insert a very handy clause.

Chelsea’s hierarchy officially pulled the trigger today, sacking Liam Rosenior after just 104 days in charge following a run of five consecutive league defeats without a goal.

The 3–0 collapse at Brighton proved to be the final straw for the board. His tenure ends with the second-lowest points-per-game record of any Chelsea manager this century, leaving the club in seventh place and facing their most severe identity crisis in decades.

Calum McFarlane has been named interim head coach for the remainder of the season, stepping up from his role as assistant to steady a fractured dressing room.

However, McFarlane’s first task is a monumental one: leading a deflated squad into Sunday’s FA Cup semi-final against Leeds United at Wembley.

Chelsea insert break clause in Liam Rosenior’s contract

Sky Sports have reported that there was a break clause in Liam Rosenior’s contract and he will not be due hefty compensation.

Interestingly, it had been claimed that the Blues would owe Rosenior around £24 million after handing him a contract until 2032, but the clause looks to have saved them.

The plan for Chelsea from here is to wait until the end of the season before they go and appoint a long-term replacement, with five games still left in the Premier League.
