Arsenal are reportedly keeping tabs on Bernardo Silva’s situation ahead of a possible summer move for the midfielder, according to multiple reports emerging from England and Portugal.
Arteta knows Silva well from their time together in Manchester, and the midfielder’s tactical intelligence, press resistance, and ability to operate both centrally and in wide areas make him a natural fit for *ARSENAL*’s possession-dominant system. Despite already boasting depth in attacking midfield roles, the club believes Silva’s versatility could elevate the squad as they continue to challenge for major honours.
However, sources familiar with the player’s thinking caution that a move to north London remains unlikely for several reasons.
Silva has long been open about his desire for a new challenge outside England. He has previously spoken of his interest in experiencing a different league and lifestyle later in his career, with Spain and Portugal regularly cited as preferred destinations.
For years, Barcelona and Paris Saint-Germain have been among the clubs most consistently linked with him. Should he decide to leave Manchester, his priority is expected to be a move closer to the Iberian Peninsula—not a switch across the Premier League.
Silva has spent seasons competing at the very top of English football, winning every domestic trophy multiple times. From his perspective, a transfer to another Premier League side might not represent the kind of change he has been seeking since at least 2021. A move within the league, even to a project as ambitious as Arsenal’s, might feel like a lateral shift rather than a fresh chapter.
Third, while Arsenal’s rise under Arteta is undeniable, joining a direct domestic rival could complicate the narrative of Silva’s exit from Manchester. He remains a hugely popular figure among supporters and teammates, and some close to him believe he is unlikely to force through a move that might sour those relationships.
Although transfers between top Premier League clubs are no longer rare, Silva’s personal attachment to Manchester and the club may influence him to avoid such a contentious move.
Arsenal’s interest is understandable. With Champions League football secured again and the squad continuing to mature, adding a profile like Silva’s would be a significant statement of intent. The club believes his experience and creativity would complement the emerging attacking core and bring balance in games where control and guile are needed.
But for the moment, the expectation remains that if Silva departs the Etihad, his next step will be a move abroad, not to Emirates Stadium. While ARSENAL are prepared to remain alert to any shift in his circumstances, the likelihood of a Premier League-to-Premier League switch involving one of City’s most trusted players appears slim.
Still, the north London side will continue to watch developments closely. Should Silva’s stance soften—or should other destinations fail to materialise—Arsenal intend to be ready.
