'They told him...' - Chelsea owners have brutal response to John Terry's offer to replace Liam…

In big news, if not all that surprising, Chelsea have decided to part ways with Liam Rosenior. Naturally, some names will now emerge as options to take over as manager, with club legend John Terry already putting himself up for the job.

It wasn't that long ago that Enzo Maresca was calling the shots at Stamford Bridge, with Rosenior lasting just 106 days as his replacement. Following a run of six defeats in their last seven matches, however, the club confirmed on Wednesday that the head coach would no longer be in charge.

A statement read: "This has not been a decision the Club has taken lightly, however recent results and performances have fallen below the necessary standards with still so much more to play for this season. Everyone at Chelsea FC wishes Liam every success in the future."

John Terry Snubbed as Calum McFarlane Takes Over

John Terry after his final game for Chelsea

The Blues now sit seventh in the Premier League, and Calum McFarlane will step in as Interim Head Coach until the end of the season. His job will be to try and secure Champions League football, although that looks difficult.

It seems as though club legend Terry was aware that Chelsea might be looking for an interim coach to take charge and, according to reports, put himself forward. Despite this, he was brutally rejected by the club owners. TalkSPORT pundit Andy Jacobs revealed, via Chelsea Chronicle:

“I’ve been told John Terry wanted to [take over until the end of the season], but they didn’t want him. And they told him in no uncertain terms that he will never, ever get the job."

The reason behind the rejections are unclear. After all, Terry is one of the club's greatest players. He's even stated his credentials before, lashing out at fans online who said he was not qualified enough to take over:

"I have every qualification going, I have three years coaching experience in the Premier League with Aston Villa.

"On top of that nobody is more Chelsea than me, for us to be top again we need a top manager as yes that would rule me out but please don't say I'm under qualified!"

Terry Previously Claimed He Was 'Frustrated' By Lack of Chelsea Chance

Terry had made negative headlines of late for actions away from football, having commented on a post made by British Member of Parliament (MP) Rupert Lowe. He appended to endorse the message, which pledged to ban the burqa and ensure that all London stations use English language signs only.

It's unclear if this played a role in Chelsea's recent decision to replace Terry. Regardless, he's long been overlooked for a manager role within the club. After Maresca was sacked, for example, he claimed he was 'frustrated' not to be given a chance, saying:

"Not annoyed, probably more frustrated, because I was certainly part of that Under‑21s group that went over. So even if I didn’t take the team … Calum took the team, did really well, got a result out of the [Manchester City] game. I feel like I should have been part of that.

"Now, listen, people have got to make decisions. I love it when people make decisions and they go 'yes' or 'no'. Clearly, the ownership, or whoever made those decisions - the sporting directors - have gone 'no' not to include me, for whatever reason. I don’t know why."
