It might have taken 244 days - but the Premier League table has a familiar look about it again. Manchester City are top and looking down on the rest, after limping past Burnley at Turf Moor with a hard-fought win which sent Scott Parker's men back to the Championship.

Pep Guardiola's team understood three points would lift them to the summit having beaten Arsenal on Sunday, and Erling Haaland put them ahead after though the Norwegian's strike wouldn't trigger a goal rush.

City now head the table, albeit by the narrowest of margins. They've drawn level on points with Arsenal, sharing identical goal difference, meaning the Manchester side occupy top spot purely through goals scored. 66 to Arsenal's 63.

A soccer team, dressed in white uniforms, celebrates a goal on the field while a person in a gray vest, possibly a media professional, captures the moment with a camera. The background features a cheering crowd seated on bleachers, and the field is marked with the sponsor's logo, "Utility."

Manchester City' players celebrate Erling Haaland's goal against Burnley at Turf Moor.

Following the visitors' opener through Haaland's delicate finish, they couldn't build momentum. City entered the interval leading by just the single goal, which would have caused frustration. Rayan Ait-Nouri blazed wide inside the area and the visitors also rattled the post.

City struck the woodwork once more in the second half when a Haaland attempt hit the upright. Burnley remained largely trapped in their own territory but held resolute, and the visitors' growing impatience became increasingly evident. Rayan Cherki and Savinho spurned additional chances, reports the Mirror.

Guardiola finds himself where he desires to be, leading the pack, yet the absence of a ruthless touch and the inability to enhance their goal difference will cause annoyance. Here are five talking points from Burnley.

Arsenal the chasers for first time since October

Arsenal dislodged from summit For over 200 days, they've been leading the pack and, honestly, it seemed at times as if no one could catch up with Arsenal. City were always on the brink of hitting their stride, but never quite made it. Well, they certainly have now, and psychologically, seeing their name at the top of the table will be a huge boost.

In terms of league position, this was City's easiest opposition and, with goal difference potentially determining who lifts the trophy, there must have been some disappointment that they didn't return to Manchester with a bigger lead over Arsenal.

But now, with City in FA Cup action, the Gunners have the opportunity to reclaim their spot at the top when they host Newcastle on Saturday.

Manchester City's Antoine Semenyo reacts after a missed chance

A missed chance

If anyone understands the importance of securing big wins late in the season to clinch a title on goal difference, it's City. They could be set for a repeat of 2012, with the top two tied on points and only separated by goal difference.

Quietly, City would have arrived at Burnley knowing they needed not just to win, but to win convincingly. They thrashed Burnley 5-1 earlier this season and a victory by a similar margin would have been on their minds. Instead, while they dominated the match, their winning margin was slim. Guardiola grew increasingly agitated on the sidelines as his team squandered numerous chances and positions - which they hope won't prove costly come late May.

The fantastic four falter

For all the talent at Guardiola's disposal, this title push has been spearheaded by a front four who appear to possess everything you could desire in the final third. Haaland's goalscoring prowess remains, and always will be, crucial. Operating behind him, Rayan Cherki has taken on the primary creative duties with the added advantage of genuine pace around him.

Jeremy Doku, sometimes criticised for being overly unrefined, has discovered his peak form since arriving in Manchester while Semenyo has transferred his Bournemouth displays and established himself amongst the Premier League's finest wingers. Their input and chemistry has relegated the likes of Phil Foden and Omar Marmoush to substitute roles, yet you cannot dispute their current selections, even though they failed to click completely on Wednesday evening.

Silva departing in style

Bernardo's exit from Manchester was confirmed recently and the Portuguese wizard appears determined to demonstrate his class before leaving the Etihad. He's been amongst the cornerstones of the Guardiola era, operating in numerous different positions. In his latter years he's operated deeper, yet retained the licence to surge forward. His relentless energy, delicate touches and a footballing intelligence that is off the charts has made him a delight to observe. He's been amongst the outright match-winners who have spearheaded this late-season climb to the table's peak and there's no risk of him slipping out quietly, Bernardo is assuming a starring role, despite Wednesday evening proving a source of irritation for all connected with City.

Burnley fate sealed

On Monday evening Wolves' status as a Championship outfit for next season was rubber-stamped, though it has felt inevitable for months. Burnley's campaign has fared little better and Wednesday evening was ultimately when their demotion was rubber-stamped before a Turf Moor audience peppered with vacant seats.

They were challenging for the Championship crown last season, yet have never appeared capable of mounting a relegation fight. They relied heavily on their defensive foundations last season, but that approach was never going to succeed in the top tier and they've been unable to adapt their approach. For Parker, it's another demotion on the CV.
