Arsenal will be looking forwards rather than backwards now after last weekend's defeat to Manchester City. The Gunners lost out 2-1 at the Etihad on Sunday in a result which blew the title race wide open.

Mikel Arteta allowed his players a couple of days off to recharge and regroup following that result. But now their attention will now be fully on Saturday's game against Newcastle at the Emirates as they attempt to get back to winning ways.

The focus on the pitch remains on the Premier League and Champions League. But sporting director Andrea Berta will already have begun putting plans in place for the summer transfer window, despite the club’s heavy investment last term.

Arsenal made eight signings before the start of the campaign, including Viktor Gyokeres, Eberechi Eze, Martin Zubimendi and Piero Hincapie. After a quiet January window, the Gunners may look to strengthen their front line again, with Gyokeres and Noni Madueke yet to significantly improve the team's output in the final third.

Bernardo Silva claim

ESPN Brazil reports that Arsenal are viewed as a potential destination for the Portugal international, alongside Barcelona, as he prepares to leave City on a free transfer. The 31‑year‑old has confirmed he will end his nine‑year spell at the club this summer.

A return to Portugal remains an option, but Silva is said to prioritise joining a competitive side and continuing to play at the highest level. Barcelona are understood to 'stand out' as the most suitable fit for his current form, while Arsenal are believed to be 'monitoring the situation.'

However, a move to north London is considered 'more remote,' largely due to the recent Premier League rivalry between the two clubs. That said, Gabriel Jesus and Oleksandr Zinchenko have both made the switch in recent seasons.

Anthony Gordon boost

Newcastle United star Anthony Gordon, who has been linked with a move to Arsenal in recent weeks, could be absent from Eddie Howe's squad for Saturday's clash. The Daily Mail reports that Gordon is carrying a hip issue and may miss what would have been a potential audition at the Emirates.

Alongside Arsenal, Bayern Munich and Liverpool also hold an interest in the England international.

Liverpool were keen to bring Gordon back to Merseyside after being offered the chance to sign him in 2024, when Newcastle were scrambling to meet the Premier League's Profitability and Sustainability Rules (PSR) deadline.

Gordon's potential absence on Saturday should make Arsenal's task much easier as they bid to get back to winning ways after last weekend's defeat to City.
