Report: Chelsea make decision on sporting directors after Liam Rosenior's exit

Despite Liam Rosenior’s departure, the Chelsea hierarchy appears to be maintaining a steady course behind the scenes, with the current sporting leadership retaining the firm backing of the owners.

Paul Winstanley and Laurence Stewart continue to spearhead the operation, supported by Joe Shields, Sam Jewell, and recent addition Dave Fallows.

The group has faced heavy scrutiny for a £1.5 billion investment that has yet to yield consistent results.

Chelsea are pivoting to a transfer recruitment strategy that sees them bring in more experience after a lack of leadership at key moments in games.

But there’s an added pressure to deliver this summer after such a dismal summer transfer window, with Alejandro Garnacho and Liam Delap two of Chelsea‘s most disappointing signings.

Chelsea sporting directors to remain at Stamford Bridge

According to the Guardian, there is still backing from above for Chelsea’s five sporting directors, Paul Winstanley, Laurence Stewart, Sam Jewell, Joe Shields and Dave Fallows.

Plans in the summer include bringing in more established Premier League talent.

Interestingly, Winstanley is open to leaving Chelsea if he is offered the main role at another club, with Tottenham Hotspur interested in luring him away.

It’s highly unlikely that the Chelsea owners would ever get rid of the sporting directors, especially given their close relationship at Stamford Bridge.

What Chelsea need to do next after Liam Rosenior’s sacking

The immediate priority for Chelsea after Liam Rosenior’s dismissal is a period of self-reflection regarding their recruitment and managerial criteria.

After two failed appointments this season alone, the hierarchy has acknowledged that pursuing high-potential, project coaches without top-level experience has backfired. The next crucial change involves pivoting the summer search toward a manager with an established European pedigree, as names like Julian Nagelsmann and Andoni Iraola are starting to appear.

But things can change, with five games left for the Blues in the current campaign and European football still up for grabs.
