**Former Chelsea and Newcastle manager Ruud Gullit says Liverpool should not be considering sacking Arne Slot.**
The 47-year-old is under serious pressure after a sub-par season, but asked about the speculation, Gullit sprang to the defence of his fellow Dutchman:
“Ridiculous! They (Liverpool) didn’t win (the league) for a long, long time. They win the championship, and now all of a sudden, you want to kick him out? A lot of things happened here with Liverpool, a lot of things. Come on.”
“People need more time to mourn (the death of Diogo Jota on the eve of the season). It has a huge effect on the team what happened with Liverpool. Therefore, they need to give Slot another season in order to get it right. Come on.”
Will Slot still be in charge next season?
-----------------------------------------
Various reports from reliable sources seem to suggest that the Dutchman will not be sacked this summer, which will come as a surprise to many fans.
The performances in Slot’s second campaign have not been particularly great, and there are concerns that if he remains in charge, the club will be forced to fire him at some point next season anyway.
Alonso isn’t under consideration to become Liverpool manager
------------------------------------------------------------
While the reports about Slot’s position have been pretty consistent, it is slightly more surprising to hear that [**Xabi Alonso**](https://walkon.com/blog/liverpool-news-xabi-alonso-agent-paris/) may not be in the running to replace the Dutchman even if a change in the dugout is necessary.
Trusted journalist David Ornstein has not only reiterated what others have said about Slot, but he went further by saying the club’s hierarchy haven’t shown any interest in appointing the Spaniard as his successor:
“I don’t have any information to suggest Alonso would be in line to replace him.”
