Former Chelsea manager on the brink of invincible season at European club

Chelsea legend Jose Mourinho is on the verge of footballing immortality and heartbreak simultaneously, as he sits just four games away from an invincible season with Benfica.

Jose Mourinho solidified his status as one of the most successful managers in football history during his time at Chelsea. Across two separate spells at Stamford Bridge, he delivered three Premier League titles, three League Cups, and an FA Cup.

He was the mastermind behind a record-breaking defensive unit that conceded only 15 goals in a single season, while Mourinho’s second stint saw him return to lead the club to another dominant league title in 2015.

Since his final departure from London in late 2015, Mourinho has held several high-profile positions across Europe. He won the Europa League and League Cup during two years at Manchester United before a trophy-less tenure at Tottenham Hotspur.

He then moved to Italy, where he guided Roma to their first-ever European trophy by winning the inaugural Europa Conference League. Following a brief stint in Turkey with Fenerbahce that ended in 2025, he returned to Portugal to manage his current club, Benfica.

Chelsea fans, if Liam Rosenior was sacked before the FA Cup semi-final, who would you want to see in charge?

Jose Mourinho on course for an invincible season at Benfica

The former Blues manager is on the verge of a historic but bittersweet achievement at Benfica, as he enters the final four games of the season with his side still undefeated in Liga Portugal.

Despite maintaining a remarkable invincible run, a high volume of draws has effectively ended their title hopes, leaving them seven points behind league leaders Porto.

The situation is increasingly tense, as the Special One has publicly criticised his players’ mentality while simultaneously insisting on his desire to stay.
