Opinion: One Chelsea star will be absolutely gutted by Liam Rosenior sacking

Some Chelsea players will not be too disappointed to see Liam Rosenior go, with the club sacking him on Wednesday.

That is likely to include Enzo Fernandez, whose relationship with Rosenior seemed to have deteriorated after he was handed a two-game suspension.

However, not everyone will be happy about the 41-year-old’s exit from Stamford Bridge.

Andrey Santos will be disappointed after Liam Rosenior exit

Under Enzo Maresca, Andrey Santos did not get too many opportunities at Chelsea. Yet that was not the case under Rosenior.

Knowing Santos after working with the midfielder at Strasbourg, Rosenior gave him a chance in the starting XI and he was taking it until recent weeks.

In Santos’ defence, most of the team have not played well since the win against Aston Villa at the start of March.

When Chelsea were performing, Santos was putting in some good performances. In the middle of the park, the 21-year-old was controlling the tempo of games with simple and smart passes and winning back the ball with tackles.

Ultimately, the Brazilian played his best football at Chelsea under Rosenior. His exit could really hurt him.

It will now be interesting to see what happens to Santos. It has already been claimed that Chelsea are open to selling Santos.

What Andrey Santos has said about Liam Rosenior

Santos was very happy when Rosenior arrived in west London. According to the Brazil international, he gave him a “big confidence boost”.

In an interview shared by Chelsea’s official club website back in January, Santos said: “He has given a big confidence boost, not only for me but for a lot of other players as well. I try to help my team-mates because I know the type of football he wants. It’s easy for me because I know him and I worked with him.”

Jorrel Hato is another Chelsea star whose confidence would have been boosted by Rosenior.

Like Santos, he was barely playing when Maresca was at the club. But the Dutchman thrived under his successor in both the left-back and centre-back positions.

During Chelsea’s horrid run of form at the end of Rosenior’s tenure, there is no doubt that Hato was their best player.

Santos and Hato are both young footballers with huge talent. Whoever succeeds Rosenior, hopefully they utilise the duo.
