Romano: Top Italian clubs offered Man City defender – the key doubt

John Stones will leave Manchester City at the end of the season and his agent has offered him to top clubs in Serie A, Fabrizio Romano claims.

The summer window is approaching, and many players – especially those who will leave on a free transfer because their contracts are expiring – are instructing their agents to test the market to see what is out there.

Stones in Serie A?

This is also the case for Stones, who will leave Manchester City at the end of 2025-26 after what will have been ten years with them. Where could he go next? Fabrizio Romano says he has also been offered around in Italy.

“John Stones, a 31-year-old defender who turns 32 in May, will leave Manchester City for free. One of the world’s best playmakers, an extraordinary playmaker. A firm favourite with Pep Guardiola and likely a future manager, given his vision for football,” he said (via MilanNews).

“He’ll leave City on a free transfer, and it’s an interesting opportunity. From what I know, he’s been offered to Italian clubs, and even in the Premier League, where he already has an offer.

“He’s been offered in Italy, but some have doubts about the player’s fitness, given his injuries, especially this year. He returned a few days ago, but his fitness hasn’t always been top. John Stones is leaving City; let’s see if they seize this opportunity in Italy. There are doubts about his fitness.”

The England international has won the Champions League, six Premier League titles, two FA Cups, three Carabao Cups and a UEFA Super Cup since he signed in 2016 from Everton.

He will hope to sign off with a final league title, as City went top last night. However, he missed 34 games last season due to injury and this season he is already on 24, according to Transfermarkt.

Stones has been linked with Milan in the past few months, and we picked him out in a recent feature as one of five upcoming free agents that the management should look at.
