Leeds United winger Wilfried Gnonto relishing prospect of 'special' FA Cup tie against Chelsea

Wilfried Gnonto is relishing the prospect of a “special” day at Wembley for Leeds United’s FA Cup semi-final against Chelsea.

He has started three of the club’s four games in the competition, helping the Whites elimiate Derby County, Birmingham City, Norwich City and West Ham United to reach the semi-final stage for the first time since 1987.

Wilfried Gnonto looking forward to ‘special’ Wembley trip

Having stepped off the bench in each of Leeds’ last three league fixtures, Gnonto will be hoping he has a part to play under the arch on Sunday (April 26).

He told LUTV: “It is going to be special. Personally I can’t wait. You have to try and stay concentrated and do not think about it too much. We have a couple of days to prepare and I am sure we are going to be ready.”

Leeds can now look forward to Wembley, having had laser focus on their trip to AFC Bournemouth before their 2-2 draw with the Cherries last night (April 22).

Gnonto was a bright spark after entering the fray and it was his strike that was deflected in by James Hill to cancel out Bournemouth’s opener.

Leeds United’s ‘fight’ against AFC Bournemouth

The Italian winger said: “We had to fight a lot at the end of the game. I think throughout the whole game the guys were brilliant and it was incredible to finish like this.

“I think it makes it even better and hopefully we are going to get many more points. We are really competitive so we are really happy, we are really united and hopefully we are going to keep going like this.

“They were really good, I think they are a top team. They have been good the whole season and we knew coming here was not going to be easy. We knew we had to fight. We knew we had to stay in the game and compete, and that is what we did.”
