Liam Rosenior’s time at Chelsea was short-lived, but in the moment, it felt like his sacking was a long time coming. Now, it has been revealed what Chelsea’s players were saying about his training sessions.
Chelsea confirmed the decision to sack Liam Rosenior on Wednesday evening, less than 24 hours after the 3-0 hammering at Brighton. Calum McFarlane has been re-inserted as caretaker boss until the summer.
Plenty of revelations have since emerged following Rosenior’s sacking, such as the nickname one player had for Rosenior and how Chelsea’s players have teased the manager since Rosenior took over.

It plays into the narrative that some Chelsea players were unhappy with the sacking of Enzo Maresca and would have preferred if the Italian had remained. Some players have even criticised his training sessions.
Chelsea players didn’t like training under Liam Rosenior
Marc Cucurella and Enzo Fernandez have publicly declared they felt it was the wrong decision to sack Maresca. Now, a report from Ben Jacobs claims that they even preferred Maresca’s training to Rosenior.

Speaking to Give Me Sport, Jacobs claims some Chelsea players have informed him they preferred the training under Maresca: “Players were not always clear what Rosenior wanted out of them tactically.
“Some players have told me they preferred training under Maresca compared to Rosenior. Chelsea’s perspective is that Rosenior was respected by the squad and admired for what he did at Strasbourg.”

The main question Chelsea will have to ask themselves is which manager is willing to work under the current structure. Five sporting directors, as well as the much-criticised Behdad Eghbali and Todd Boehly.

It is sure to put some big names off and it is the reason why Maresca was sacked, ultimately, as well as the appointment of a perceived ‘yes-man’ in Rosenior. But plenty are supposedly on Chelsea’s radar.
Cesc Fabregas, Edin Terzic, Jose Mourinho, Andoni Iraola, and plenty more have been touted with Chelsea come the summer. For now, Calum McFarlane will take on caretaker charge until the end of the season.
