Arsenal face La Liga giants battle for signing – Player set to leave in the summer

Arsenal and Atlético Madrid are among clubs chasing Borussia Dortmund’s Julian Brandt for the summer.

The 29-year-old has a contract expiring in June and will leave the Signal Iduna Park as a free agent. Both the player and BVB have confirmed his summer exit.

This makes the Germany international a market opportunity for Arsenal, Atlético Madrid and other clubs.

Last month, Sport Witness covered claims from Germany that the Gunners and Barcelona are in the picture to sign him.

He’s fluent in Spanish and has a Catalan girlfriend, which may give the Camp Nou side an edge over Arsenal.

Atlético join Arsenal in transfer chase

Marca have a detailed report on Los Rojiblancos’ interest in Julian Brandt and also cover Mikel Arteta’s side.

Atlético Madrid’s Antoine Griezmann will join Orlando City in July, and his side are looking at several options. This includes the Borussia Dortmund player, who is the main target.

Mateu Alemany, the Spanish club’s sporting director, is leading the pursuit of the Germany international. He’s also attracting interest from Arsenal, the Madrid club’s opponent in the Champions League semifinal.

The Gunners are in the running to sign Brandt and face competition from Diego Simeone’s side to secure his services.

It most likely these two teams won’t be the only ones fighting for the player who already confirmed he’s leaving after this season.

The contract situation, performances and experience would make him an attractive option for several top European clubs. The growing competition may allow him request for better terms and a higher signing on bonus.

Marca make no mention whether Atlético or Arsenal have made any progress and also about the player’s preference.
