Chelsea may be forced into selling some of their key players this summer.
Already having announced record losses for a Premier League club, the chances of the income form Champions League football to hope help balance the books have receded in recent weeks.
Their defeat at Brighton was the fifth in the row in the league, and they have now dropped below the South Coast side in the table, a defeat that proved to be Liam Rosenior’s last as head coach. In fact, once the current round of fixtures have been concluded, they could find themselves mid-table, and out of the European places altogether.
There is still the FA Cup, meaning that the semi-final tie with Leeds at Wembley has even more significance.
And that could mean the likes of Enzo Fernández, Marc Cucurella, and Cole Palmer, all have been linked with other clubs, could all be sold to help raise funds.
And it will also have an impact and who they are able to attract to the club in the summer, with the lack of European football next season a deterrent in the eyes of some players.
