"Very important" - Fabrizio Romano shares Anderson to Man City update out of Nottingham Forest

Fabrizio Romano has shared an Elliot Anderson to Man City update out of Nottingham Forest this morning.

Forest have enough on their plate right now.

A relegation battle to navigate, a Europa League semi-final against Aston Villa on the horizon, and tonight's trip to the Stadium of Light to face Sunderland.

Vitor Pereira's side have come a long way in a short time, but the work is far from done.

Forest sit five points above the relegation zone with five games left, having hauled themselves from 17th place and out of the bottom three through an unbeaten run across their last five Premier League matches.

That turnaround includes four wins and two draws from their last six games in all competitions, capped by last weekend's emphatic 4-1 home victory over Burnley — a result that gave the City Ground one of its most joyful afternoons of the campaign.

A win tonight and Premier League survival is virtually sealed.

The Tricky Trees will welcome someone back.

Yet while the focus at the City Ground remains firmly on the pitch, the noise building around one of their best players is growing louder by the day.

Anderson has been one of the most coveted midfielders in English football since the turn of the year, and it is not difficult to see why.

He joined Forest from Newcastle United for £35 million in the summer of 2024 and has since developed into one of the most complete midfielders in the country, attracting major interest from City and Man United in the process.

He is also expected to be a key figure for England at the summer's World Cup.

Fabrizio Romano shares 'important' Elliot Anderson to Man City update

Sky Sports reported this week that City are in pole position for Anderson's signature, with sources increasingly believing he is destined for the Etihad, aided by positive relations between the two clubs.

That assessment was backed up this morning by Romano, who confirmed that City are preparing to make what he described as a "very important financial proposal" to the player — maintaining the frontrunner status he first revealed back in March.

Romano added that Man United remain "attentive and keen" should City's pursuit falter, but crucially noted that nothing has yet advanced in direct talks with Forest.

That last detail matters enormously.

Owner Evangelos Marinakis has shown before exactly how he operates in these situations.

The Athletic's David Ornstein reported that Marinakis would ideally like a British record fee for Anderson — eclipsing Alexander Isak's record £125m move from Newcastle to Liverpool last summer.

Marinakis also held firm on Morgan Gibbs-White when Tottenham attempted to trigger an exit clause last summer, and there is every reason to believe he will apply the same principle here.

City are willing to pay big — but whether they are willing to pay that big, particularly while also managing uncertainty over Rodri's future and the departures in their own midfield, remains the central question.

For Anderson, the immediate priority is tonight's game.
