Antonio Conte
Rome, Italy – January 4, 2026: (C) Adam Marusic of Lazio argue with (R) Pasquale Mazzocchi of Napoli while (C) Antonio Conte coach of Napoli divides them during the Serie A Enilive 2025-2026 football match between S.S. Lazio vs SSC Napoli at Olympic Stadium.
Once again this season, Chelsea find themselves in the middle of chaos. The Blues could now be looking to make another dramatic decision for their managerial hot-seat.
It always seemed like the Stamford Bridge job was too big for Liam Rosenior. The decision to bring him to the club came too early, as the Englishman managed at the highest level for less than two years.
Despite knowing that, the Blues demanded instant results from the Englishman, falling down the trap of hiring project managers while not having the patience for them.
As they scramble for a replacement, the idea of bringing Antonio Conte back to Chelsea has emerged.
Blues considering sensational return
Calciomercato IT note how the Italian finds himself in an uncertain situation at Napoli. While they are very much in line to qualify for the Champions League, Conte is also a target for the Italian national team.
Moreover, there are doubts whether his demands to restructure the squad can be met by president Aurelio de Laurentiis. A meeting at the end of the season will dictate everything.
As per the outlet, Chelsea harbour a ‘crazy idea’ to bring Conte back. This will be an attempt to take advantage of his situation and beat Italy to his signature.
The possibility is being seriously considered by the London club, who won the title under the 56-year-old in 2017.
Conte departed Chelsea in his trademark dramatic way but a lot of water has passed under the bridge since.
Our take: Conte not a bad idea for Chelsea
While returns to former clubs don’t always work out in football, Antonio Conte moving back to Chelsea isn’t a bad idea.
The Italian is an expert at bringing instant results and quickly winning silverware. While very demanding, Conte adds a steely grit to teams and that was evident at Napoli last season.
He isn’t a project manager like the individuals Chelsea have a trend of appointing and will also appease many fans.
