Arsenal get major Bukayo Saka injury boost as Mikel Arteta delivers update on three stars

Arsenal are set to receive a significant boost with the returns of Bukayo Saka and Riccardo Calafiori ahead of their clash with Newcastle. The pair have been sidelined for differing periods in recent weeks through injury, but now appear ready to play their part in the Gunners' Premier League title pursuit.

Mikel Arteta revealed during his pre-match press conference before Saturday's encounter with the Magpies: "No [issues]. Bukayo is probably going to be in the squad. So good news. Riccardo in the squad." The Spaniard also confirmed the fixture will arrive too early for Jurrien Timber, who remains unavailable.

Saka has not featured for Arsenal since he started the Carabao Cup final loss to Manchester City prior to the recent international break.

The England winger has been dealing with an achilles problem which required careful management.

He was unable to complete his race against time to feature against City at the Etihad Stadium last weekend but may secure some valuable minutes tomorrow.

Arteta added that Saka appears delighted to be back amongst the squad, remarking: "He was in great spirits today; you could see that today."

Meanwhile, defender Timber has been absent for the better part of six weeks after hobbling off against Everton on March 14. The Dutchman began the 2-0 win over the Toffees but was forced off before the interval, owing to a groin problem, and also sustained a knock to the ankle.

Calafiori has been sidelined for marginally less time than Saka and Timber after sustaining an injury in the 1-0 Champions League victory at Sporting CP.

He was absent for the second leg and was also forced to miss recent league fixtures against Bournemouth and title challengers Manchester City.

Arsenal are aiming to return to the summit of the table this weekend while City are involved in FA Cup semi-final action against Southampton.

The Gunners slipped to second on Wednesday evening after Manchester City's 1-0 win on the road at Burnley, which relegated Scott Parker's side.
