Player’s“Affinity”For Liverpool Could Help Them Secure£75M Transfer Ahead Of European Giants

Liverpool could hold the trump card in the race to sign Newcastle winger Anthony Gordon this summer, according to Bild reporter Christian Falk.

Writing on his personal website, CF Bayern Insider, Falk said that the former Everton player’s “affinity” for the Reds could cause issues for one of his other suitors, Bayern Munich:

“It’s true that Gordon’s prior relationship with, and affinity for, Liverpool Football Club could be a problem for Bayern Munich. Liverpool are still one of the top clubs in Europe, and they have a lot of money to spend. By contrast, Bayern don’t want to spend so much money this summer.”

“If they can’t get an agreement with Newcastle and Liverpool are able to put more money on the table than Bayern Munich, then you can understand why the Magpies would argue they shouldn’t sell Gordon cheaply to Munich when they can get more money from Liverpool. This could be a problem.”

Will Liverpool make a move for the player?

The Merseyside club were close to sealing Gordon’s signature in the summer of 2024, but the deal fell through. It is not known whether they still hold the same level of interest in the player now.

Arsenal have been more heavily linked with the England international in recent weeks, along with Bayern, with Liverpool said to be more focused on recruiting other wingers.

Gordon would be cheaper than Diomande

While it appears Bayern have reservations about the 25-year-old’s price tag, Liverpool may not have the same concerns as he could end up costing less than other transfer targets.

Yan Diomande is reportedly high up the club’s shortlist to replace Mo Salah, but RB Leipzig want at least €100m (£87m) for the Ivorian. Newcastle, meanwhile, may be prepared to offload Gordon for around £75m at the end of the season.
