Jamie Carragher Slams Chelsea Owners After Fifth Managerial Sacking

Jamie Carragher did not hold back in his verdict about Chelsea owners BlueCo, after they sacked Liam Rosenior – their fifth managerial sacking since they bought the club. The Liverpool legend shared his scathing review of their football operations at Stamford Bridge on his Telegraph column, insisting that the Egbahli-run club was a “failed football experiment.”

In what was hardly a surprise move, Liam Rosenior was sacked on Wednesday after a rather abysmal run of form in recent weeks. Despite giving the former Strasbourg head coach a contract of over six years, he was given the slip after only about three months in the dugout role.

Rosenior had led the Blues to their fifth consecutive Premier League loss without scoring a single goal. It culminated in a 3-0 loss to Brighton, which drove Chelsea down to 7th place on the league table, with Champions League qualification now looking untenable.

Writing about the Stamford Bridge sporting project, Jamie Carragher made his displeasure clear:

“Once power switches to the directors rather than those who work daily on the training ground to improve performances, this is the outcome: carnage, with a disconnect between fans, players, managers and the directors.”

The 48-year-old went further to insist that the football experiment, which has cost well over a billion pounds, has failed:

“Those in charge at Stamford Bridge wanted to go about their business in a different way from Roman Abramovich. They have certainly managed that, spending over £1.5billion to make Chelsea less successful, less feared, less respected and less profitable. A trophy-winning machine has been transformed into an expensive, failed football experiment.”

Chelsea Begin Search for Stability

Chelsea have returned to Calum McFarlane as their interim head coach until the end of the season. The former under-21 coach was given the role after Enzo Maresca left Stamford Bridge on New Year’s Day. After impressing in his two games in charge, he was replaced by Liam Rosenior permanently, but was handed a coaching role in the first team.

With Rosenior’s tenure prematurely ended, McFarlane will hold the reins in the interim setup once more, and he will start with an FA Cup semi-final clash against Leeds United. There have been rumours that Chelsea’s sporting directors have yet to appraoch any permanent manager options. However, they have been widely connected to managers like Cesc Fabregas, who is a former Blue and has impressed in Italy.

Any manager taking over the dugout will need to make do with young players, as BlueCo will likely hold onto their recruitment philosophy of signing only youngsters with potential.
