Kennet Eichhorn Has Transfer "Priority" As Newcastle Vie With Man City And Arsenal For German Wonderkid

Newcastle United transfer target Kennet Eichhorn has made staying in Germany the “priority”, according to Bild reporter Christian Falk.

Writing on his personal website, CF Bayern Insider, Falk said that complications over a work permit, as well as concerns over playing time, may lead to the 16-year-old remaining in his homeland:

“I heard that Kennet Eichhorn and his family are discussing his future in football. At the moment, the feeling is that the priority is to stay in the Bundesliga to make the next step. That’s despite interest from Arsenal, Manchester City and Newcastle. But there’s also the question of what exactly the next step looks like.”

“It’s not just about which team can offer him the most money, but rather who can offer Eichhorn playing time. This will be a key point. There are some rules in England that mean it’s not so easy to obtain a work permit for a 16-year-old player, so this could be a difficulty for Premier League clubs.”

English clubs can’t sign Eichhorn until 2028

Falk is right that red tape could stop the likes of Newcastle from sealing the signature of the teenager. No Premier League side is allowed to buy foreign players below the age of 18.

It means that the earliest opportunity for Eichhorn to make the switch to England would be the summer of 2028.

A pre-agreement can be reached, but he would have to stay at his current team, Hertha Berlin, in the meantime. At the moment, it seems he is not willing to wait that long.

Newcastle are targeting several young forwards

Eichhorn is not the only promising young player on the radar of Magpies sporting director Ross Wilson.

The club are set to bring in Johan Martinez from Independiente del Valle this summer, while they have also been credited with an interest in Palmeiras teenager Eduardo Conceicao.
