Fabrizio Romano Claims Man City Have "Made Checks" On Chelsea Star But Viana Would Prefer To Sign 2 Other Players

Man City have made “made checks” on Chelsea’s Enzo Fernandez as they consider potential midfield targets ahead of the summer transfer window, according to journalist Fabrizio Romano.

However, speaking on his YouTube channel, Romano said that two other players are currently higher up the shortlist of options than the Argentinian international:

“Enzo Fernandez has been discussed internally at Manchester City, but they have different other top targets like [Elliot] Anderson, and [Sandro] Tonali is appreciated.”

“They made checks on Enzo before. No negotiations; if they miss out on other targets, they might look at him as an opportunity.”

Fernandez has already signalled that he would favour Real

During the last international break, Chelsea’s vice captain heavily hinted that he wanted to move to Madrid at the end of the season, and his comments led to his club banning him for two games – one of which was City’s 3-0 win at Stamford Bridge.

Combined with the cost of signing Fernandez, his interest in making the switch to Spain has probably put off City from actively making an offer for him.

Man City are in pole position to sign Anderson

It looks like Nottingham Forest’s Elliot Anderson has made the Etihad his priority destination ahead of rival Manchester United. Sky Sports are the latest outlet to claim that the England international has given his approval to joining Pep Guardiola‘s side.

A lot will still depend on how the midfielder’s valuation. Forest owner Evangelos Marinakis is said to be hoping to break the British record, which currently stands at £125m, but that seems wildly ambitious. You can’t see City agreeing to pay such a fee.

That could lead to the club shifting their focus to Newcastle’s Sandro Tonali, whose asking price is believed to be closer to £100m.
