Newcastle United starting XI for their Premier League clash away to Arsenal.
Former Gunners goalkeeper Aaron Ramsdale has started the last eight matches following Pope’s mistake in the 3-2 defeat at home to Everton on February 28.
But Pope has been reinstated for the visit to the Emirates as United look to end a run of four straight defeats in all competitions.
Bruno Guimaraes returns to Newcastle United starting XI
Pope is one of five changes from last Saturday’s 2-1 defeat to AFC Bournemouth, as skipper Bruno Guimaraes makes his first start since February after recovering from a hamstring injury.
The Brazilian made his comeback as a second-half substitute last weekend but is recalled to the starting line-up after building up his fitness in training this week.
Speaking ahead of the game, Howe told NewcastleWorld: “He's had a full week of training and he's trained really well. I've been very pleased with him.
“It's been tough for him. I think you could see against Bournemouth he came on with all the right intentions to deliver a really good physical performance, but you could see that he was struggling at times physically to adapt to the pace because he really had minimal training. But he was playing on heart and spirit and determination, but the week he's had this week will serve him really well.
“He's such an important player for us on so many levels that, of course, we're keen to get him on the pitch as quickly as possible, but I've just got to make sure it's not to his detriment. It's been great to have him back around the group, though.
“He's such a positive person that he can only help and inspire the players around him.”
Five changes to Newcastle United’s starting XI v Arsenal
Also coming into the starting XI are Dan Burn, Jacob Murphy and Joe Willock as Tino Livramento, Lewis Hall, Anthony Elanga and Harvey Barnes drop out.
Ramsdale, Hall, Elanga and Barnes are on the bench while Livramento is ruled out with a thigh injury. Anthony Gordon is again out with a hip flexor issue.
The Magpies currently sit 14th in the Premier League and with hopes of qualifying for Europe all-but over, the pressure has mounted on manager Eddie Howe.
Arsenal, meanwhile, fell off the top of the table in midweek following Manchester City’s 1-0 win at relegated Burnley.
With Pep Guardiola’s side in FA Cup semi-final action against Southampton, the Gunners will return to top spot if they avoid defeat against Newcastle.
