Arsenal did what was needed from them to reclaim first place in the Premier League standings with a 1-0 win over Newcastle United on Saturday.

It was a must-win game for the Gunners on home soil, given Manchester City leapfrogged them into the top spot earlier in the week courtesy of a 1-0 win over Burnley of their own - albeit on goal difference.

While Arsenal will have hoped to have found the back of the net more than just the once to give themselves a bigger advantage, considering City have a game in hand on them as a result of their FA Cup tie with Southampton this weekend, Ebere Eze's solitary strike was enough to clinch all three points at the Emirates Stadium.

Mikel Arteta's outfit now also hold a three-point lead over their Premier League rivals as they look to secure their first league title in more than two decades.

However, the Spaniard will have to demand nothing but perfection from his first-team, should they hope to be successful in their endeavours, considering Pep Guardiola's Cityzens have one more game to play, and the chance to ultimately bridge the gap once more.
