Mikel Arteta has offered an update on injured Arsenal duo Eberechi Eze and Kai Havertz. Eze scored what turned out to be the winning goal against Newcastle United.

He found the net in the ninth minute at the Emirates Stadium, before Mikel Arteta's side put up the shutters and defended for their lives, securing a 1-0 home victory. It's a result which dragged the Gunners back to the top of the Premier League table, albeit with Manchester City having a game in hand.

However, Arteta lost two of his key attackers during the clash. Kai Havertz went down injured in the first half, while Eze limped off after the break.

When asked about the condition of both, Arteta said it's too early to tell. He told Sky Sports: "Let's see. At the moment they have to be looked after, but hopefully they're going to be ok."

Havertz was the first to go down with what appeared to be a groin injury. This was a particularly huge blow for the attacker, with injuries limiting the German to only nine Premier League appearances this season.

He had seemingly been installed as Arteta's first-choice striker in recent matches, as the ex-Chelsea forward also lead the line in last weekend's 2-1 away loss to City. When Havertz went down, Arteta hauled him off for Gyokeres in the 35th minute.

Meanwhile, after half time, Eze seemingly went down with a suspected ankle injury. He also had to make way, with Gabriel Martinelli coming on for him.

Before the match, Arteta also provided an update on Riccardo Calafiori, who did not appear this afternoon. He said: "He was very close.

"But we have certain players that are coming back from injuries and can play certain moments as well, and we need to be balanced in what we need to."

Arteta will now have a nervous wait to see if Havertz, Eze or any of them, will be available for the Champions League semi-final second-leg away clash against Atletico Madrid next Wednesday.

Considering the quality of Eze's goal, he will be particularly devastated to be without the ex-Crystal Palace man. A clever short corner ended with Eze firing a swirling and curling effort into the top corner.
