"Got everything" - Glenn Murray says Newcastle have an "unknown quantity" with "so much…

BBC pundit Glenn Murray says Newcastle's 'unknown quantity' caused Arsenal problems at the Emirates this evening, lavishing his potential to be a star.

Arsenal 1-0 Newcastle as Arteta keeps pressure on Pep

Newcastle came away from the Emirates with nothing yet again, but this was far from a one-sided affair.

Newcastle manager Eddie Howe

A tight 1-0 defeat to Arsenal told a familiar story for Eddie Howe’s side. They competed, they stayed organised, and for long spells they frustrated one of the Premier League’s strongest teams.

The difference, in the end, was a single moment of quality early in the game that Newcastle simply couldn’t match.

After falling behind, Newcastle didn’t collapse. They grew into the contest, pressing higher and showing more intent in possession. There were flashes down the flanks, and periods where Arsenal were forced to sit a little deeper than they would have liked. But clear-cut chances were at a premium.

Defensively, there was plenty to admire.

They limited Arsenal for large parts and stayed in the game right until the closing stages, but pushing for an equaliser never quite turned into real danger. The Gunners always looked just about in control.

It leaves Newcastle with another narrow defeat and more frustration.

Amid that, though, one of the more intriguing talking points was the role of William Osula.

The young forward, who was being tracked by English rivals in January, once again showed why he’s becoming such an interesting option for Howe.

As Murray pointed out on BBC Radio 5 Live, Osula has the tools to trouble top defenders, and you could see hints of that against Arsenal.

William Osula

He’s not the finished article, far from it, but Murray was quick to point out the 22-year-old's sky-high potential and how he caused Arteta's side problems.

"Will Osula can cause Arsenal problems like we have seen already this afternoon," Murray said.

"He is an unknown quantity, he has got everything, I really like his profile.

"He can't quite knit it together, but he has so much potential. So much so that Eddie Howe has left two big summer signings on the bench in Yoane Wissa and Nick Woltemade."

There are moments where his play doesn’t quite connect — runs that aren’t picked out, touches that get away from him, or decisions that come just a bit too late.

But what he does bring is energy and unpredictability, and Newcastle need that right now.

Osula is quick, physical and willing to take risks. Against Arsenal, he stretched the back line and gave them something different to think about. Even without producing a decisive moment, his presence felt disruptive.

That’s a big reason why Howe is backing him.

Leaving players like Yoane Wissa and Nick Woltemade on the bench underlines that trust. Osula offers something less polished but potentially more dangerous in certain situations, especially when Newcastle are chasing games.

At this stage, it’s all about development.

The raw ability is clear, but turning that into consistent end product is the next step.

If he can do that, Newcastle may have more than just a prospect on their hands. They may have a genuine attacking weapon, one capable of turning performances like this into points, just not today.
