Chelsea injury list: Blues players out, potential return dates, predicted lineup for next game vs. Leeds

Chelsea head into Sunday's FA Cup semifinal against Leeds United in an all-too-familiar state of disarray.

Liam Rosenior was sacked just three-and-a-half months into a six-and-a-half-year contract after losing seven of his past eight matches in charge.

The only game Chelsea won during that period was a 7-0 victory over now-relegated League One side Port Vale in the FA Cup quarterfinals.

Up next at Wembley are in-form Leeds, who have almost successfully staved off the fear of relegation from the Premier League under Daniel Farke.

A spot in next month's final against Manchester City is the prize on the line, with Calum McFarlane back in the dugout for his second stint as interim head coach

Chelsea injury list

Below is the latest injury picture for Chelsea, including estimated return dates for those who are sidelined.

Joao Pedro

Injury: Thigh

Expected return date: April 26 (vs. Leeds)

After missing the Manchester United and Brighton defeats with a thigh injury, Joao Pedro has returned to training and will be assessed prior to the semifinal.

Cole Palmer

Injury: Hamstring

Expected return date: April 26 (vs. Leeds)

Palmer also sat out the Brighton defeat that brought down Rosenior. With Joao and Cole, they both trained today and are in a good place. We don’t know yet [whether they can feature on Sunday], but we have another day tomorrow to have a look at them and then make a call on them," McFarlane said.

"But we hope so [they can be involved], but it’s important we give them time. We are going to train tomorrow, they will both be involved and we will make a call on them after that session."

Estevao

Injury: Hamstring

Expected return date: June

Young winger Estevao pulled up lame after reaching for a ball early in the defeat to Manchester United in mid-April, and it was clear he could not continue. The Brazilian had only just returned from a prior hamstring injury, and the McFarlane confirmed before the FA Cu semifinal that he will miss the rest of the club season.

With the World Cup only two months away, Estevao will hope the injury is not significant enough to rule him out of Carlo Ancelotti's squad.

Trevoh Chalobah

Injury: Ankle

Expected return date: May 2 (vs. Nottingham Forest)

Chalobah sustained an ankle injury following a challenge by Achraf Hakimi in the loss to PSG. Rosenior was initially worried but said the next day that the problem was "not as serious as first feared." He is expected to miss around six weeks of action, and therefore could return in early May.

Reece James

Injury: Hamstring

Expected return date: April 26 (vs. Leeds)

The Athletic's Simon Johnson first reported on March 16 that James had suffered a hamstring injury that would keep the club captain sidelined for "several" weeks. The report said this is the 10th such injury James has suffered since December 2020.

Filip Jorgensen

Injury: Groin

Expected return date: TBD

Jorgensen suffered a groin injury in the first leg against PSG that required "minor" surgery. Rosenior said it is "a matter of weeks" in terms of his recovery time. He is expected to get a more specific timeline update once the March international break concludes. He missed the FA Cup quarterfinal against Port Vale, a game he was in line to start, and has not been back on the bench since, and there are now fresh concerns he could be sidelined the rest of the 2025/26 season.

Jamie Gittens

Injury: Hamstring

Expected return date: June/July

Gittens departed after 25 minutes in the comeback win over West Ham, having picked up a hamstring injury. Tests confirmed he had suffered a muscle tear. After a setback in training while hoping to return in late March, the young winger remained absent through the international break.

While there was a belief he could potentially return in mid-April, he suffered a setback in training just before the 7-0 win over Port Vale in the FA Cup, and a report by Dom Smith of The Standard has claimed that Chelsea are worried he may not return this season.

Levi Colwill

Injury: Anterior cruciate ligament (ACL) tear

Expected return date: April/May

Colwill suffered an ACL tear in preseason and has missed all of the campaign to date. The England defender has made it back on the training pitch and appears close to a return to competitive action, although he will need significant time to ramp up before he is ready for any significant minutes or even a starting role.

Chelsea suspension list

Mykhailo Mudryk

Suspension: Doping

Expected return date: Unknown

Ukraine international Mudryk has not been available for selection since December 2024 after failing a doping test.
