Arsenal and Man United tracking Serie A midfielder

Eberechi Eze’s early goal proved enough to earn Arsenal a hugely important win over Newcastle United in the Premier League on Saturday.

The England international’s strike inside the opening ten minutes earned Mikel Arteta’s side all three points, moving them back to the top of the table.

The Gunners now sit three points clear of Manchester City, having been leapfrogged by the Citizens after their 2-1 defeat against Pep Guardiola’s side last time out.

Next up for Arsenal is a trip to Spain to face Atletico Madrid in the first leg of their Champions League semi-final on Wednesday.

Ahead of that tie, it has emerged that Arsenal are one of two huge Premier League sides chasing a Serie A midfielder.

As per Ben Jacobs, both Arsenal and Manchester United are interested in Atalanta midfielder Ederson.

The journalist claims that Atletico – who Arsenal face on Wednesday – have already reached an agreement on personal terms with the midfielder, but are yet to reach a breakthrough with Atalanta in regard to a deal.

Serie A outfit Atalanta are said to value Ederson, 26, at around £43 million, with the Brazilian under contract in Bergamo until the summer of 2027.

Jacobs claims that Manchester United have made contact with Ederson’s representatives, as they search for two new recruits in midfield with Casemiro set to leave the club and Manuel Ugarte also potentially on the move.

Arsenal, meanwhile, are tracking the midfielder could their hopes of signing him could be boosted by Jacobs’ claim that Atletico are not currently willing to meet Atalanta’s valuation of the player.

Having joined Atalanta from fellow Italian side Salernitana in 2022, Ederson has since made more than 175 appearances for his current club across all competitions.

Jacobs claims that the door could be open for Premier League sides to swoop for Ederson, with the Brazilian seemingly increasingly likely to depart his current club this summer.
