'Not listening' - Sunderland must set transfer record in move for Real Madrid and Barcelona…

The latest transfer talk from Sunderland as the Black Cats are linked with a La Liga winger.

Sunderland have been told they will have to break their transfer record if they are to see off competition from Real Madrid and Barcelona to land an ambitious deal for one of Spain’s newest international stars.

The Black Cats have already strengthened their options in wide areas by securing deals for Nilson Angulo and Jocelin Ta Bi during the January transfer window - although both players have found their introduction to life on Wearside hampered by injuries following their respective arrivals from Anderlecht and Maccabi Netanya.

Despite possessing a number of options on both wings, reports in Spain have suggested Sunderland are considering a move for Osasuna star Victor Munoz after he made a major impact during the current campaign by scoring six goals and providing five assists in 34 appearances in all competitions. The 22-year-old’s form earned him a maiden call-up to the senior Spain squad and he marked his debut by finding the net in a 3-0 friendly win against Serbia.

Reports have stated Sunderland made an initial offer worth around £20m for the winger and were also unsuccessful with a follow-up offer that included Black Cats striker Eliezer Mayenda in the opposite direction. Barcelona and Real Madrid have also been linked with Munoz in recent months and the latter have a buy-back clause on the winger after selling him to Osasuna last summer. There have been reports claiming Osasuna could accept a lower fee for the winger - but one key figure has now revealed they will be sticking to a release clause that was placed in the deal to sign him ahead of the current season.

Speaking to Spanish outlet AS, the La Liga club’s sporting director Braulio Vazquez said: “We’re not listening, we’re sticking to the clause. Real Madrid have a three-year buy-back option that’s already agreed upon. What we’re doing is enjoying Víctor until the end of the season. Many people criticised us for signing such a young player with so few minutes in La Liga. Now they’re asking us why we didn’t buy him outright. We accepted the terms Real Madrid set. Víctor made the right decision coming here, and so did we.”
