Arsenal have reportedly opened talks over a summer deal for Sporting CP left-back Maxi Araújo.
The 26-year-old has delivered impressive performances in the Champions League this season, including in the two meetings with Arsenal in the quarter-finals.
His displays have attracted interest from several top European clubs.
Now, it appears that Mikel Arteta’s side have joined the race.
Arsenal identify Araujo as priority summer target

According to Portuguese outlet Record, Arsenal have made initial contact with Araújo and his representatives over a potential summer move.
It is understood that the Gunners have made Araújo a priority target for the summer transfer window, with Arteta in particular impressed by the Uruguay international’s performances.
Araújo, whose current contract runs until the summer of 2029, is believed to have a £69m release clause.

However, Sporting CP are reportedly open to negotiating a deal for around £52m.
Araújo has also been linked with several other Premier League clubs in recent weeks, including Chelsea and Tottenham Hotspur.
