“We do things like that” – Mikel Arteta finds unlikely support for Arsenal approach

**Feyenoord manager Robin van Persie has hinted he’ll take inspiration from [Arsenal](https://sportwitness.co.uk/arsenal/) boss Mikel Arteta to motivate his players, although he can’t copy his methods directly.**

Arteta’s methods at Arsenal

---------------------------

Mikel Arteta has established himself as something of an out the box thinker when it comes to his motivation methods at Arsenal.

The Spanish coach has often turned to unorthodox methods to prepare his players for games down the years.

The Arsenal boss famously played Liverpool’s anthem, You’ll Never Walk Alone, over speakers during training to prepare player for Anfield’s atmosphere.

There was also a moment in which he used lightbulbs to emphasis to his players how, like a bulb, players must be ‘connected’ to in order to shine. Reports in England this month stated that Arteta had even turned to using TikTok edits on a screen to boost Arsenal’s morale and energy before matches.

Van Persie was asked if he would use such methods at Feyenoord in the final weeks of the season. He admits he’s aware of them but won’t go quite as far.

“With TikTok videos, right? I saw that passing by. That he played TikTok videos on a very big screen,” he said.

“Of course, you try to pull out all the stops to reach the lad and give them that final push. That can be done in a number of ways. I don’t have such a big screen at 1908, so that’s not going to work anyway.

“We have trained with the sound of the future opponent before. That was last season. We do things like that sometimes.”

Support for Arsenal teammate

----------------------------

Unlike those who are happy to mock Mikel Arteta for his conventional methods, Van Persie is taking a different approach.

He can see what his former Arsenal teammate is trying to do; connect with his players before a game.

“I once saw a video of Mikel holding light bulbs together to show that everyone was connected,” he added.

“I haven’t done that yet, but the message is pretty much the same. Ultimately, you try to touch the boys. Especially right before a match, you want to share a story or show some footage and things like that. We do that.”
