Manchester City
Manchester City could be an option for Cruz Azul’s Érik Lira in the summer.
The City Football Group [CFG] have several clubs in their stable including Manchester City.
Last week, Pumas UNAM manager Efraín Juárez revealed the Manchester City owners were sending their officials to Mexico.
He said the CFG representatives asked about a few youngsters and first team players from his side and will also look at other Mexican clubs.
Luciano Zavagno, a CFG scout, recently made a trip to Mexico to watch the midfielder live in action for Cruz Azul.
Manchester City move possibility
Record in Mexico report Luciano Zavagno was in attendance at Cruz Azul’s home stadium, the Estadio Banorte. He followed the player closely in his side’s 4-1 win over Club Necaxa and Érik Lira played the full 90 minutes.
The official representing the Manchester City owners was accompanied by the player’s agent, Mauricio Medrano. The latter posted a picture with Zavagno on social media.
Following the match, the Mexico international said he wants to move to Europe after the World Cup.
“I’m working towards that. Even though they’re just rumours, I want to make it a reality,” he told TUDN, relayed by Record.
“First, I needed to win this match, and then I want to be on the roster. I’m sure Mexico will make history, and I’m sure that not only I, but those who are included will take a significant leap forward, and those of us here will raise our hands so that there are more of us in Europe.”
Record state the 25-year-old could move either to the Premier League or La Liga.
CFG have Manchester City, Girona, Lommel SK and Troyes as their four clubs in Europe. With Lira wanting a move to Europe, Pep Guardiola’s side remain an option for him in the next window.
Contract, stats and value
Érik Lira’s preferred role is as a defensive midfielder and can also operate as a centre-back. He played 3,580 minutes this season, managing one goal.
The Mexican’s contract expires in 2029 and he’s valued at €12m by Transfermarkt.
