Fabrizio Romano has dismissed recent speculation linking Julian Alvarez with an immediate move to Barcelona, despite reports suggesting the Argentine forward has already agreed terms with the Spanish giants.
The transfer expert’s comments come after claims emerged that Alvarez’s entourage had given their word to Barcelona about a summer switch, even as Arsenal continue to show strong interest in the Atletico Madrid attacker.

Arsenal remain in the hunt
--------------------------
The Gunners are believed to be the club showing the strongest desire to secure Alvarez’s signature. Arsenal’s admiration for the 26-year-old stems from his proven quality and experience, particularly following his successful spell in the Premier League with Manchester City.
Since joining Atletico Madrid, Alvarez has continued to deliver impressive performances whenever selected. His consistency has only strengthened Arsenal’s interest, with the north London side believing he could elevate them into a team capable of winning major honours regularly.
The forward boasts an outstanding trophy collection, including the World Cup, Champions League, and Premier League among several other major honours. That pedigree has naturally attracted attention from Barcelona as well.
Romano sets the record straight
-------------------------------
However, [according to Football365](https://www.justarsenal.com/romano-reacts-to-rumours-that-arsenal-target-wants-to-join-another-club/414278), Romano insists the player’s full focus remains on Atletico Madrid’s current campaign rather than any potential summer transfer.
“It is being reported that Alvarez has already spoken to Hansi Flick, that he is already looking for a house in Barcelona, and that he has agreed terms,” Romano explained.
“I can guarantee that nothing will develop on the Julian Alvarez story in the next few days because Atletico Madrid are preparing for a Champions League semi-final. Alvarez does not want any distraction. Everything is focused on the pitch and the possibility of achieving something historic with Atletico Madrid.”
The Italian journalist added that while Barcelona would love to sign Alvarez, they remain aware of the very difficult financial package required to complete such a deal.
Romano’s update suggests that despite the growing speculation surrounding Alvarez’s future, no immediate progress is expected. Atletico Madrid’s focus on their European campaign appears to be taking precedence for all parties involved.
For both Arsenal and Barcelona, patience will be required before any serious developments emerge. Until Atletico’s season concludes, Alvarez’s concentration appears fixed on helping his current club chase silverware rather than deciding his next destination.
