Tottenham have genuine interest in Barcelona loanee on an impressive 26 G/A this season

Tottenham have to reinforce their attack after an underwhelming season.

Tottenham Hotspur have already started preparing for the summer transfer window, despite their major focus being on staying in the Premier League over the coming weeks. The Lilywhites are planning with the hope that they remain in England’s top flight, which will be a huge boost when it comes to attracting quality players.

A narrow win over Wolves on Saturday boosted their chances of survival, but unfortunately for Roberto De Zerbi’s side, West Ham’s last-gasp victory against Everton kept them in the bottom three. De Zerbi remains confident that his team has the attributes to win the final four games and stay in the Premier League.

With that hope, Spurs have reportedly made contact with the representatives of Bournemouth defender Marcos Senesi ahead of a possible summer move on a free transfer. Senesi, who is also on the radar of several other clubs, is open to joining De Zerbi’s Tottenham only if they remain a top-flight club. Now, the North Londoners have shifted their focus towards reinforcing the attacking unit.

Tottenham eye move for Manchester United star

According to Spanish publication Sport, Tottenham have genuine interest in Manchester United forward Marcus Rashford, who is currently on a season-long loan at Barcelona. However, a first condition must be met, that Spurs must ‘avoid relegation’.

Marcus Rashford has flourished at Barcelona under Hansi Flick’s guidance, bagging 26 goal contributions thus far. The England international wants to continue with the Spanish club, and Barcelona do have an option to sign him permanently for a fee of around £26 million. However, they have not yet decided whether to trigger the clause. In case the defending La Liga champions decide not to sign the player permanently, Tottenham could look to move for Rashford.

With the 28-year-old’s future still up in the air, Spurs are seemingly looking to capitalise. Barcelona’s tight financial situation could help the North Londoners in their attempts to sign the versatile forward. The Catalan giants have attempted to renegotiate the transfer fee with Manchester United, something INEOS refuses to do.

From Tottenham’s perspective, Rashford would be an immediate upgrade on their wide options. De Zerbi requires a dynamic player who can become the face of his side’s attack, and the Man United star, with his versatility, experience, flair and goalscoring ability, fits the bill perfectly. The Englishman could prove to be an excellent acquisition, offering a different dynamic to the likes of Mathys Tel, Randal Kolo Muani and Mohammed Kudus in the final third.

But staying in the top flight would not be enough for Tottenham to sign the Wythenshawe-born ace. The N17 chiefs have to not only come up with an exciting project, but also fulfil his eye-watering wage demands. That said, should Barca fail in their attempts to sign Rashford permanently, Spurs could knock on United’s door.
