Katie McCabe and Beth Mead are reportedly close to agreeing moves to Manchester City on free transfers at the end of the season, according to The Athletic.
Both players are out of contract this summer, with City emerging as the frontrunners to secure their signatures ahead of the 2026-27 campaign.

Arsenal willing to keep Mead
----------------------------
Arsenal were prepared to make Mead an offer to remain at the club, but Manchester City are expected to present the England international with a longer-term deal. The attraction of joining City extends beyond contract terms, with the club securing Champions League football for next season.
Additionally, Mead’s partner Vivianne Miedema already plays for the Manchester side, providing another compelling reason for the move.
The potential departure of Mead would be a significant blow for Arsenal Women, particularly given her history with the club and her status as one of England’s most prominent players.
Foord situation adds complexity
-------------------------------
The situation becomes more complicated with Caitlin Foord also out of contract this summer. Arsenal are reportedly keen to avoid losing both wingers in one transfer window, though there is currently no firm information regarding whether Foord will receive a new contract offer.
McCabe’s potential move to City has also attracted interest from Chelsea, though Arsenal had no prior knowledge of the reported interest before The Athletic’s story emerged.
The Irish international has been a consistent performer for the Gunners and her departure would leave another significant gap in the squad.
Contract activity continues
---------------------------
Arsenal have already confirmed several contract decisions for the summer. Goalkeeper Manu Zinsberger will leave when her deal expires, while striker Stina Blackstenius has secured a contract extension.
More contract extensions are expected to be announced for first-team squad members in the coming weeks, as the club looks to retain key players ahead of next season.
The potential loss of McCabe and Mead to a direct rival would represent poor business for Arsenal Women, particularly given both players’ experience and contribution to the team. With City set to compete in the Champions League and Arsenal facing an uncertain European future, the appeal of a move across Manchester may prove difficult to resist.
Arsenal will hope to resolve the remaining contract situations quickly to provide clarity for both players and supporters ahead of the new campaign.
