Eberechi Eze and Gabriel Martinelli were both present at today’s open training session ahead of Arsenal’s Champions League semi-final first leg against Atletico Madrid.
Eze, who scored the winner in Saturday’s 1-0 victory over Newcastle, was substituted in the second half but said afterwards the decision was purely precautionary. Some supporters took that with a pinch of salt after he said something similar before the Carabao Cup final, only to miss the next couple of weeks.
Thankfully, whatever the issue was, it appears to have cleared up.
Martinelli also looks to be fine. The Brazilian was seen clutching his hamstring in stoppage time before collapsing to the turf at the final whistle, but it seems his lively cameo after replacing Eze may simply have caught up with him.
As expected, Kai Havertz was not involved. The German’s muscular niggle is likely to keep him out for at least another week, though the club remain confident he will still have a part to play in the run-in.
That leaves Jurrien Timber and Mikel Merino as the only two players currently sidelined. Merino, who is recovering from a stress fracture in his foot, remains hopeful of returning before the end of May.
