Tottenham are reportedly interested in signing Marcus Rashford this summer if the Manchester United loanee doesn't end up joining Barcelona permanently. Rashford's loan spell at Barca concludes at the end of the 2025/26 season and there is uncertainty now surrounding his future.
Rashford has made no secret of his desire to join Barcelona on a permanent deal this summer, having enjoyed this season. He has contributed 13 goals and 13 assists in 45 appearances for Hansi Flick's side and has no intention of returning to United.
However, despite his impressive performances, Barca are dragging their heels in negotiations with United. They are unwilling to pay the £26million fee that would turn his loan into a permanent transfer and are keen to agree a fresh loan deal for the 2026/27 season, due to their much-publicised financial problems.
United want a permanent transfer for their academy graduate, who still has two years left to run on a deal worth £325,000-a-week. They are standing firm on their stance with Barca - and the current stalemate could open the door for other interested parties.
Catalan outlet Sport says that Tottenham have shown 'genuine interest' in signing Rashford and could throw a spanner in the works, if they avoid relegation from the Premier League. Spurs currently sit 18th, two points from safety, with four matches left to play.
Barcelona are prioritising a move for Atletico Madrid forward Julian Alvarez this summer and know the Argentina star will command a huge fee. They are therefore wary about over-spending on Rashford, who is not deemed to be a potential replacement for outgoing veteran centre-forward Robert Lewandowski.
Atleti manager Diego Simeone confirmed on Tuesday that Barca are among those chasing Alvarez. "It's normal that an extraordinary player like Julian Alvarez is wanted by Arsenal, Paris Saint-Germain, Barcelona," he said. "It's normal because he's very good."

All of this muddies the waters for Rashford, who is understood to be staying calm as he tries to secure a dream move to Barcelona, where he has settled well and is enjoying life. The 28-year-old has a good relationship with Flick and is hopeful that the German manager's influence will be a significant factor.
United are set for a hugely significant summer transfer window, with the club hiring a new long-term manager to succeed Ruben Amorim while overhauling their squad. They want to fund the signing of an elite central midfielder through player sales, with Rashford on the transfer list alongside fellow loanees Rasmus Hojlund, Jadon Sancho and Andre Onana.
It is therefore in United's interests to secure a deal for Rashford as soon as possible, but Barca sporting director Deco is likely to try and negotiate a lower fee if a loan is off the table.
