Liverpool in pole position to sign £26m Diomande alternative who's won the Champions League

Liverpool are now leading the race to sign Ibrahim Mbaye from Paris Saint-Germain this summer, with the young attacker considering his future in France.

Liverpool lead race to sign Mbaye

The Reds will be on the hunt for attacking stars once again this summer, with Mohamed Salah set to bring an end to an illustrious Anfield career and Hugo Ekitike set for a long spell on the sidelines.

Arne Slot has at least been boosted by the return of Alexander Isak in recent weeks and would have been among those most relieved when the Swede found the back of the net against Crystal Palace on Saturday.

That goal does not take away Liverpool's depth problem, however. Without Salah next season, and with Ekitike facing a long return, there is a clear drop off in quality between those with a starting place and those watching on from the reserves. If the Reds are to return to title contention, then that must change.

With that said, it looks as though FSG are ready to spring into action this summer. Recent reports have mentioned the likes of Yan Diomande and he would certainly add another dimension to Liverpool's frontline.

Whether FSG are willing to pay a hefty price to welcome Diomande remains to be seen, however. Instead, they could be forced to turn to other, cheaper options. And that's where Mbaye could come in.

According to Caught Offside, Liverpool are now leading the race to sign Mbaye from PSG this summer, with the winger reportedly considering his future in France.

Valued at £26m, Newcastle United and Aston Villa are also interested, but those at Anfield will hope to lure Mbaye to Merseyside ahead of their Premier League rivals.

"Amazing" Mbaye could become Salah heir

Replacing Salah is an impossible task this summer, but what if Champions League Mbaye is the answer?

Even though his best years are yet to come at 18 years old, the PSG star has already featured 26 times for Luis Enrique's side this season. The Spaniard clearly thinks he's ready and it would seem that Liverpool share that opinion.

Add in the fact that Mbaye already plays for Senegal at such a tender age and it's no surprise that he was dubbed "amazing" by talent scout Jacek Kulig back in March.

Liverpool are hoping to hijack one of their Premier League rivals' top summer targets.

Of course, it is worth pointing out that the goals are yet to come. He is not the finished product, far from it. But the potential is clear. There's a good reason why Enrique has trusted his young winger so early into his career even if all that leads to is a pathway to replacing Salah at Liverpool.
