Former Liverpool and Germany midfielder Didi Hamann has insisted that Anthony Gordon would be wise to avoid signing for the Champions League semi-finalist Bayern Munich this summer.

Hamann believes that a team like the Reds would be much better suited to what Gordon needs from his next move. Liverpool agreed a deal worth $100 million (£75 million) for him back in 2024, though it remains to be seen which options will be on the table for the England ace two years on.

That same $100M price tag is said to have been placed on Gordon's head by Newcastle, with Bayern Munich the frontrunner. Arsenal and Chelsea have also been linked with a move.

"There's a place for Anthony Gordon at Liverpool," Hamann said. "I think if you look at the wingers this season, Mohamed Salah is obviously leaving now.

"He hasn't been the force this season that he used to be and Cody Gakpo has been struggling. I think they probably need two players in that position because Florian Wirtz is playing that role on the left at times, and he hasn't done it.

"I think Gordon was a Liverpool fan as a kid. Yeah, that's a move I can really see because Liverpool need a player in that position, and I don't think there are too many better ones in the Premier League than Anthony Gordon."

Gordon has scored 17 goals for Newcastle this season but the feeling is that his time in the North East will be coming to an end. It could be another summer of change at St James' Park and he wants to take the next step in his career.

"I think Gordon is one of the best wingers, if not the best winger, that England have got," Hamann, speaking to New Betting Offers, continued.

"He also plays up top at times. He's versatile, I think he's an excellent player. There's talk about him coming in as a back-up for Luis Diaz, but I think he's just too good and too expensive for that.

"I was a bit surprised when I read it. Can I see Bayern Munich being interested? Yes, I can. But at the same time, as a back-up? I think he's just too good.

"I think he's a player who has to play and, you know, all his team's players are having brilliant seasons. So if they come back from the World Cup without injuries, they will start next season.

"I know they've got a lot of games in Munich, but, you know, a player like Gordon, I don't think he'd be happy starting one or two games a month. So, yes, they might be interested. But can I see this happening? I'm not too sure."

Liverpool.com says: Gordon is the kind of player that the Reds should be looking for. With Hugo Ekitike out for a long period of time, adding a wide player who can also play down the center would be a very useful attribute too.
