Manchester United take on Liverpool in the biggest Premier League game of the weekend. The age-old rivals clash in a huge fixture, with both sides pushing for a third-place finish in the top flight this season.
All eyes will be on Old Trafford, as is usually the case when Manchester United host Liverpool. The match is scheduled for 3:30pm BST on Sunday afternoon after a fixture time change confirmed in March. The Reds travel to Old Trafford hoping to reclaim bragging rights after a 2-1 defeat at Anfield earlier in the season.
Despite Liverpool’s recent domestic dominance over their rivals, having won two Premier League titles and the Champions League in recent years, this season has been more competitive.
United are currently on track to finish above Liverpool for the first time in several seasons. A 2-1 win over Brentford on Monday saw Michael Carrick’s side move three points clear of Liverpool in third place.
Carrick, who replaced Ruben Amorim at Old Trafford, has earned strong praise for his impact, with growing calls for him to be appointed permanently. Meanwhile, Arne Slot is under increasing scrutiny at Liverpool amid a disappointing title defence.
Liverpool could move level on points with United if they win on Sunday, with goal difference potentially separating the sides.
United may be without Matheus Cunha and Luke Shaw. Matthijs de Ligt is also ruled out, though Leny Yoro and Patrick Dorgu are expected to return. Lisandro Martinez remains suspended.
Liverpool’s injury list is also a concern, with Mohamed Salah a major doubt after suffering a hamstring issue against Crystal Palace. He joins Hugo Ekitike, Giorgi Mamardashvili, Conor Bradley, Wataru Endo, Giovanni Leoni, Stefan Bajcetic and Jayden Danns on the sidelines.
If Salah is unavailable, Liverpool may turn to youth options, with Kieran Morrison and Will Wright in contention for squad involvement, while Mor Talla Ndiaye could also travel. Alisson Becker is expected to return in goal, replacing Freddie Woodman after the latter’s recent appearance against Palace.
