According to Courier Sport, the promotion hopefuls are considering a summer move for Liverpool youngster Luca Stephenson following two impressive loan spells at Dundee United.Stephenson, who has also attracted interest from Rangers and several EFL clubs, is on Steven Schumacher’s shortlist. However, any formal approach will depend on which division Bolton will be playing in next season.The 22-year-old has been a standout performer for Dundee United, registering seven goals and eight assists in 67 appearances.He was named the club’s Young Player of the Year for 2024/25 and is expected to be in contention for further honours this season.When asked if Dundee United could bring Stephenson back for a third spell, manager Jim Goodwin was candid in his response: “My feeling is that Luca wants to be somewhere permanently. Luca is under contract at Liverpool and, given how well he’s done here, I think that would be a considerable transfer fee.”This season, Stephenson has racked up 33 appearances, scored five goals and provided five assists for Dundee United in all competitions.Should Liverpool opt to cash in on the former Sunderland youngster, he is likely to command a sizeable six-figure fee – far beyond Dundee United’s reach but one Bolton would be willing to meet.Stephenson is currently recovering from a hamstring injury, with an expected lay-off of around eight weeks. Barring a collapse in their final matches, Bolton are set to feature in the League One promotion playoffs as they push for a return to the Championship.The Trotters are no strangers to recruiting from Dundee United, having signed Sam Dalby last summer after his 15-goal spell with the Tangerines. He has since scored 12 times in 48 appearances this season.Luca Stephenson joined Liverpool from Sunderland at U15 level. He made his U18 debut during the 2019/20 season as a 16-year-old and captained the side in 2020/21, the same season he signed his first professional contract in September.Stephenson signed an extension the following campaign and played a key role in Liverpool U21s’ runners-up finish in Premier League 2 in 2022/23, featuring across right-back and centre-half.He gained senior experience in 2023/24 with a loan move to Barrow, making 34 appearances, before joining Dundee United for the 2024/25 season.There, he impressed in the Scottish Premiership, earning the club’s Young Player of the Season award after making 34 appearances and scoring three goals, helping secure a fourth-place finish and European qualification.After featuring in Liverpool’s pre-season ahead of 2025/26, Stephenson signed a new contract and returned to Dundee United on loan for the campaign.
