Ex-Liverpool winger Luis Diaz made an almost instant impact in the Champions League semi-final clash between Bayern Munich and PSG at the Parc des Princes.

Inside the first quarter of the first leg in the tie, Diaz enticed Willian Pacho into making a hasty tackle inside the penalty area. When he went down, the referee was well-positioned to point to the spot.

Diaz was lively from the off and had already caused Marquinhos to pick up a yellow card when he body-slammed him. And, when given the spot kick, Bayern Munich was decisive, with England ace Harry Kane converting confidently to put the German side ahead.

It wasn't long, though, before Khvicha Kvaratskhelia had leveled things on the night with a stunning equalizer. Joao Neves then headed PSG in front during a stunning first half.

The winner of the tie will face either Atletico Madrid or Arsenal in Budapest in May's showpiece final. They play one another in Madrid on Wednesday.

"Lucho brings a lot to the team," Bayern Munich head coach Vincent Kompany said after he starred in the previous round against Real Madrid and his former Liverpool teammate Trent Alexander-Arnold.

"He can dribble, create chances, and finish. But what makes him special is his mentality; he's not afraid of chaos and becomes a threat in those situations.

"He brings a lot of energy to the team. You can only congratulate the club on signing such a player. He's a great player for Bayern Munich."

Kompany's comments came not long after Steven Gerrard suggested that the winger — alongside Michael Olise — would be a perfect candidate to replace Mohamed Salah at Liverpool.

"All day long," he replied when asked on TNT Sports if he like to see Olise at Liverpool.

"But the problem is, why would he leave Bayern Munich? Big club, they're challenging for the big honors, probably the strongest Bayern Munich team we've seen for a while.

"He's about to take the World Cup by storm come the summer, he looks like a really happy kid, settled... I don't think he's going anywhere.

"But yes, I would love him at Liverpool, and you know what? I wouldn't mind Diaz back as well..."
