The first leg of the UEFA Champions League semi final between Paris Saint-Germain and Bayern Munich was something from another planet.
Defending champions PSG held on for a 5-4 win in a match of breathtaking quality and audacity between two swashbuckling teams that played pure football of the highest order.
“We’re watching a game here that is going to go down in football history,” exclaimed match commentator Guy Mowbray as he digested the ebbs and flow in a contest where Bayern led, PSG came from behind, Bayern levelled, PSG went into the break up via a controversial equaliser before Luis Enrique’s side exploded in the second-half to lead 5-2, before Vincent Kompany’s men set up a thrilling finale.
Mowbray, who asked “have you ever seen football on this level” when PSG piled in their second half goals, while simply exhaling, like all of us, “wonderfully ridiculous” as Bayern revived the tie to set up the second leg as must see football.
Wow.
See the kids don’t need football games to be 15 minutes long cos of TikTok brain, they just need to make all the games like PSG v Bayern so it’s actually worth watching. Make it fun. Let them dribble I say — JJ Bull (@jj_bull) April 28, 2026

A sensational game in Paris: it's been played like the last few minutes of a World Cup final from the start. It's being dominated by the attackers in a way that makes it feel like it belongs to another era (a good era) — Sam Wallace (@SamWallaceTel) April 28, 2026
Brilliant half of football ends on a controversial note with that handball. Given in the CL, not so much in the PL. Different levels of tolerance. At least they’re consistent. What football should be all about from a cultural and fan POV, assemble your team with some of the best individuals [technical + physical] and partner them up with a coach who platforms them without constraints. This is what you get, two wonderful teams, who you HAVE to watch. https://t.co/IaDyf2uQxp — h (@htomufc) April 28, 2026

Harry Kane opened the scoring before it became an end-to-end battle you couldn’t take your eye off.
Khvicha Kvaratskhelia stole the show with a prime brace either side of half-time, but in between, Joao Neves put PSG 2-1 up, before a superb Michael Olise finish levelled it at 2-2.
There was drama just before the half when PSG won a penalty for a handball whenDembélé’s cross struck Alphonso Davies’ arm from close range, which Dembele despatched.
With half hour to go, Bayern led 5-2, but then Bayern launched an ambitious response, headlined by Luis Diaz’s dazzling 68th minute finish to make it 5-4 ahead of the return leg in Munich on Thursday 7 May.
