Marcus Rashford's destiny is poised to be determined in the summer transfer window. The Manchester United star has flourished on loan at Barcelona this season.
The 28-year-old has been away from Old Trafford since losing his place under former United manager Ruben Amorim. A loan stint at Aston Villa in 2025 was followed by the England international moving to Barcelona last summer.
The Catalan giants have an option to make Rashford's move permanent for approximately £26million and he has expressed his wish to remain at Barcelona beyond the current campaign. However, there have been conflicting reports surrounding Barcelona's transfer plan, with suggestions that the Spanish outfit will try to renegotiate the £26m fee or pursue a second loan deal.
Sky Germany has reported that Barcelona are keen to keep Rashford but are pushing for a second loan move. The Manchester Evening News has previously stated that United will knock back Barcelona's attempts for another loan spell and are unwilling to reduce the transfer fee, forcing Hansi Flick's side to stump up £26m or allow the forward to leave.
Meanwhile, United's decision to part company with Amorim earlier this season has raised the possibility of Rashford returning to the club. Here's an overview of Rashford's options ahead of the transfer window.
Man Utd return
United boss Michael Carrick has insisted that a final verdict is yet to be reached on Rashford's future. The pair are former team-mates and the 44-year-old also coached Rashford before taking the manager's role in January.
When quizzed about the Barcelona loanee earlier this month, Carrick said: "There's decisions to be made on certain things, and obviously Marcus is in that situation.
"But at this point in time, nothing's been decided. It will be, because it has to be at a certain point, but at this stage, there's nothing to say."
Whether Carrick will be appointed United manager on a permanent footing remains to be seen. Nevertheless, Rashford could potentially opt to remain at the club should a permanent switch to Barcelona fail to come to fruition.

Joins Barcelona permanently
Barcelona hold the option to sign Rashford for £26m this summer. The fee would arguably be good value, given his productive stint in Spain.
The United star has contributed 13 goals and assists apiece across 45 appearances for his new club. Barcelona president Joan Laporta has previously lauded his impact and set out the club's plans for the summer. "Marcus is performing very well with assists and goals," Laporta told RAC1. He added: "We will try, in Barca's interest, to ensure that Marcus can continue."
World Cup audition
The summer tournament could work in United's favour should Rashford shine on the global stage. He has consistently featured in England squads under Thomas Tuchel.
Should Barcelona fail to secure a deal for Rashford, the forward is likely to attract attention from other suitors. The Manchester Evening News has previously reported that United would be confident of recouping around £50m for the academy product.
He already caught the eye during his brief stint with Villa last season and has further restored his standing during his spell at Barcelona. If Rashford also emerges as a standout performer at the World Cup, United could command a fee substantially higher than the aforementioned £26m.
Goal has reported that Juventus could enter the race to sign him, while the likes of Newcastle United, Bayern Munich and PSG have also been tentatively linked in recent weeks.
