English club likely to pull out of race as Rangers eye move for Liverpool-born striker - report

Rangers are understood to be keen on securing the services of Leeds United striker Joe Gelhardt this summer.

The Liverpool-born striker has spent this season out on loan at Hull City, but could be set for a permanent move in the coming months.

Rangers have been given the green signal to sign Gelhardt, and the deal could cost them around £5m.

Middlesbrough likely to pull out of race to sign Joe Gelhardt

According to TEAMtalk, Middlesbrough are likely to pull out of the race to sign the Leeds striker if they get promoted.

The Premier League would demand a higher-calibre of forward, which would see them cool their interest in Gelhardt.

Currently, they are fourth in the Championship, but could secure promotion if they win their next game and other results go in their favour.

Even if they finish outside the top two, they could still get promoted via the play-offs.

Should that happen, it would be a clear path for Rangers to sign the 23-year-old attacker this summer.

Leeds are set to cash in on him and given that the 49ers Enterprises are their owners, it would be an easy deal to complete.

It could also be a potentially discounted fee, which would benefit both clubs.

How would Gelhardt fit in at Rangers?

Gelhardt prefers playing down the middle, but has shown a willingness to drift out wide and stretch the play.

He is known for his high conversion rate, especially this season, as he has the penchant for arriving in the penalty area at the right time.

His movement makes him extremely hard to mark, which means that Danny Rohl could deploy him as one of his two strikers or in the number 10 position as well.

What is worth noting is that Gelhardt also works tirelessly off the ball, so not only is he capable of leading the press, but he is also good at tracking back and sticking to his runner.

Stylistically, he is an ideal fit for the Scottish Premiership, which is why even past Rangers regimes were known to be fans of the striker.
