Darren England’s Manchester United record
Darren England has refereed Manchester United seven times in his career, with the most recent match the 1-0 away win over Everton. United have won five of the games he has officiated.
He booked three Manchester United players in that game; Bruno Fernandes, Harry Maguire and Noussair Mazraoui. He let a lot go in terms of Everton’s encroachment on Senne Lammens in the penalty box.
England also refereed United’s 2-2 draw away at Nottingham Forest earlier in the season.
He has sent off one Manchester United player during his career, showing an instant red card to Patrick Dorgu in the 3-2 home win over Ipswich in February 2025.
Dorgu made United’s bench against Brentford and will hope to make a more substantial return against Liverpool. He will need to be on his best behaviour.

The worrying VAR omen
A more worrying omen for Manchester United will be the appointment of Stuart Attwell on VAR.
Attwell was the referee for the recent Manchester United vs Bournemouth game that ended in a 2-2 draw, and was widely criticised.
He waved away a penalty appeal on Amad, before giving one at the other end against Harry Maguire, and sending off the Manchester United defender. Maguire was given an extra game ban for allegedly verbally abusing Attwell.
United made a complaint to the PGMOL following the game. Now Attwell will have another big say on Manchester United’s season.
