Anthony Gordon could hold the key to resolving Liverpool's pursuit of Yan Diomande from RB Leipzig.

It's believed that the Reds are actively chasing the 19-year-old as a replacement for Mohamed Salah, following his outstanding campaign in Germany. The winger has racked up 22 goal contributions for the Bundesliga side this season and earned his first call-up to the Ivory Coast national team in 2025.

The forward is expected to be included in the country's World Cup squad, meaning Liverpool will be keen to wrap up a deal promptly. A number of clubs are circling Diomande, with Leipzig reportedly valuing him at around £86 million ($116.2 million).

Bayern Munich is among those eyeing the teenager, but its interest in an established Premier League star could work firmly in Liverpool's favor. The Athletic reports that the German team is eager to bring in a winger this summer, with Newcastle's Gordon sitting "high among their options."

The Bundesliga team is also in the running for Diomande, but the substantial transfer fee could "prove prohibitive."

Consequently, Bayern may be forced to explore alternative targets, with Gordon being mooted as a potential substitute for the RB Leipzig star.

The England international is reportedly attracting interest from Bayern's top brass, who are planning to "lure Gordon to join Harry Kane" in Germany. Chronicle Live reports that the England international is keen on a move to Bayern and has been slapped with a £75 million ($101.3 million) price tag.

With the German team potentially switching its focus to the Newcastle star, Liverpool could find itself with a clear run at securing Diomande's signature.

The Liverpool ECHO understands that the club has already made contact with the teenager's Roc Nation agency regarding a potential move to Anfield.

Former Reds midfielder Dietmar Hamann believes Diomande would be the ideal addition to Arne Slot's squad and could hit the ground running. He said: "He's outstanding. He's certainly the best player in the Bundesliga this season.

"Not many people may know about him now, but I'm sure they will after the World Cup because he is an outstanding player. He plays off the left or the right, he's two-footed, with pace and trickery.

"He's a wonderful player, not only to watch but also very efficient and effective. I'm sure the big clubs will come calling for him, and if he hasn't got a clause in his contract, he won't be cheap.

"I know football is different in England and some players have had problems (adapting) this season, but with the pace he has, he's very hard to catch. I wouldn't think it's too early for him.

"I think you need to get the fans behind you and Diomande could do that. (Liverpool) need a signing like Diomande to really make the punters look forward to the new season again."
