Liverpool want to sign£30m player who Arne Slot once invited to his house - report

**Liverpool head coach Arne Slot is keen on signing Napoli defender Sam Beukama this summer, having once tried to bring him to Feyenoord.**

As things stand, it looks as though Slot will remain in charge of the Reds into next season, with three wins in a row in the Premier League helping him.

Assuming the Dutchman does stay, he needs a big summer in the transfer market, bringing in players who can suit his system and help make Liverpool a force again.

According to a new claim from [_TEAMtalk_](https://www.teamtalk.com/liverpool/sam-beukema-transfer-news-liverpool-arne-slot-30m-demand-richard-hughes), the £30m-rated Beukama is a target for Slot, as he looks to persuade sporting director Richard Hughes to bring him to Anfield.

The report says that the Dutch centre-back is “firmly on their radar ahead of the summer window” and he is “highly regarded” by Slot, whose “interest in the player dates back several years.”

**Could Sam Beukama be a shrewd signing by Liverpool?**

-------------------------------------------------------

As stated, Slot has rated [Beukama](https://inews.co.uk/sport/football/sam-beukema-bologna-aston-villa-liverpool-3336424?srsltid=AfmBOooYDhEV5-tnuEHSYUpKtSzHoSD44AFaJMyDgS13DLLBcjY59Foq) for some time, with the player himself once discussing how he was invited to the Liverpool boss’s house, as he looked to sign him for Feyenoord:

_“I’ve been a Feyenoord fan since I was a kid. So when Arne Slot invited me to his house to try convince me to come to Feyenoord I was so happy. I was like ‘is this real?’_

_“He had some real eye openers in terms of his philosophy on football, tactics and also me as a player. He showed me clips of how I was playing at my club Go Ahead Eagles. He said ‘you do this well, but this and this you can improve’. And I was like ‘actually, I never thought about that’. I was of course convinced.”_

The fact that Slot knows Beukama well as a player can only be a good thing, should Liverpool make a move this summer, but he should be seen as a strong squad option rather than a definite starter.

Now 27, the Napoli ace hasn’t been capped by the Netherlands, which arguably shows his limitations, but he could fill the Joe Gomez role, should the Englishman depart in the summer.

Bigger-money signings are needed for Liverpool in various positions, but Beukama could be a shrewd addition, especially as Giovanni Leoni and Jeremy Jacquet learn their trade as young centre-backs.
