Virgil van Dijk has responded to the fact that Liverpool could be facing a double departure headache as both Alisson Becker and Curtis Jones enter the summer window with their futures hanging in the balance.
Juventus have made a serious approach for Alisson and has already agreed personal terms, with Fabrizio Romano confirming the Brazilian is open to a Serie A return under former Roma boss Luciano Spalletti.
Liverpool have activated a contract extension until 2027, but Juve are dangling a two-to-three-year deal.
Virgil van Dijk, speaking to the Liverpool Echo, has said he is not worried about all the claims and wants Alisson to stay:
“Everyone can feel a certain way about it,” said the Holland international. “There are rumours but if there is anything concrete then we will all find out. But for me, I’m never worried,” Van Dijk said.
“Listen, there is always going to be a day where you – including myself – will go. But if it’s going to happen – and I have no idea about it and I don’t think at this point he has an idea about it – then we will, as a club, adapt to that.”
“We have been through everything together, positive things and some negative things unfortunately as well, so it would definitely be a big blow and a miss but I don’t think, for me, it’s a good idea to think ahead about what could or could not happen.
“He’s very important for me as one of the leaders in the team and I think he is very important on the pitch because I think he is one of the best – in my opinion the best – goalkeeper in the world. He’s trying to be back as soon as possible to help us for the last four games and that’s our main focus.”
“Whatever happens after that is not something you should ask me. Would I love him to stay? Of course, there’s no doubt about that.”
In midfield, Curtis Jones is said to be strongly considering ending his 16-year association with the club, frustrated by just 13 Premier League starts this season. Aston Villa are on the chase, with Inter Milan and Tottenham also in the frame should a summer deal materialise.
When asked if he wants the 25-year-old to remain at Anfield, van Dijk replied:
“Of course. I don’t know what’s going to happen because I’m not the boss.
“Curtis I thought was outstanding against Everton, was not too much spoken about but especially in possession he was quite a big game-changer, especially in his positioning.”
“It’s nice to be in your original position but he is so comfortable on the ball, he understands what is asked from that position.”
